Whiskey/Whisky List
The Vexed Question of Spelling (or ‘To e or not to e’)
Wherever possible when describing individual whiskeys, we will cleave to the spelling that the producer has adopted: we are happy to keep the ‘e’, drop the ‘e’, or even add an extra ‘e’ or other vowel altogether. However, when referring to whiskey in general we have decided to keep the ‘e’. It is a style decision, much like our affection for the Oxford comma and gets us an extra letter score when we play Scrabble.

The List
In the beginning we stocked every whiskey we could get our hot little paws on. Over time however, we whittled the collection down to our favourites, then expanded across the shelves as we tasted new whiskeys we loved and revisited long forgotten favourites. We carry a broad range of whiskeys from classic examples of styles to experimental misfits.
We have divided them into four broad flavour categories: Smoky, Rich,Fruity, and Spicy. There has been much hearty debate over which flavour category is appropriate for each whiskey, with much fractious infighting and occasional bouts of skulduggery, but we finally settled on this list. Of course, this is only one interpretation, and your mileage may vary. Each section is then further divided into the classics: drams, nips and balls of malt which are both affordable, and demonstrate a great example of the category. Next we have separated out those whiskeys that still have a rightful place in the category, but are a little different, be it an extra distillation, the use of interesting malts, or additional steps in the aging process. Finally, each section finishes up with whiskeys to save your pennies for. Some of these whiskeys contain spirits that are older than any of the Mulligers. The law states that the age listed on a bottle of whiskey must be the age of the youngest whiskey in the bottle (so for example the youngest liquid in the Glenlivet 40 has spent forty years in oak). We call this the wallet buster section. We did research what a wallet was called in the olden days to emphasise the age of these bad boys, but it turned out it was always called a wallet.

Rich whiskeys to save your pennies for
Middleton Dair Ghaelach €38.00
Partially matured in Irish Oak (Dair being Oak in Irish) this whiskey has bags of honeycomb, cocoa, caramel, vanilla and marshmallow all under pinned by beautiful pot still spice and body. We are currently pouring Tree Seven which we fancy is slightly sweeter than its brother Tree Four.
Celtic Cask 1991 € 50.00
Citrus peel, touches of ginger, allspice and mocha, dried fruits, boiled sweets. Spicy and oily.
Spicy
There is a phenomenon in chippers in Dublin called a Spice Bag. It doesn’t sound like much: crispy salt and chilli chicken mixed with chips (and a bucket load of MSG) in a bag, but there is an indefinable moreishness that make this the kind of food hangovers dream of. These whiskeys are not strictly speaking as addictive as a Spice Bag, but have a lot more depth and variety. There is nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger, tonka, vanilla and a certain… indeterminable spicy quality (not unlike the finest spice bag)
Irishman 12 €9.00

Mackmyra Special 04 € 9.50
A crisp, fruity Swedish malt whisky. Its character comes from a double maturation, starting with large bourbon casks and finishing with smaller, handmade, 30 litre casks. Special:04 has been matured in the Bodås mine and on the island Fjäderholmarna.
Makers Mark €7.00
Rye, spice, butterscotch and vanilla.
Togouchi Premium €10.00

“Pot Still Spice” The phrase is used so frequently it has become a cliché, but it works. Single Pot Still whiskey is made from malted and un-malted barley, resulting in an oily spicy whiskey that teems with flavour. We will save you thestory of the British tax on malt and the wily Irish distillers who circumvented it and created a style unique to Ireland and instead recommend some of our favouritePot Stills instead.
